Italia Yachts 9.98 NextGen
Every curve, fiber, and joint has been redesigned with one clear goal: absolute dominance in the ORC and IRC classes. The build of the IY 9.98 NextGen is nearing completion, resulting in a yacht that is not only lighter and stiffer but represents a technological leap in sustainability and performance analytics.

With this vision, Italia Yachts has elevated the IY 9.98 by achieving a 20% weight reduction and increasing stiffness by 35% compared to the standard version. The NextGen distinguishes itself through a series of radical modifications that contribute directly to speed and handling:
The mast is taller than the standard version, offering an option for carbon standing rigging to ensure maximum lightness and rigidity.
The new bowsprit (delfiniera) has been extended to 1.50 meters (compared to the standard 9.98) and is built in an autoclave using carbon pre-preg for superior structural stiffness.
Thanks to aerodynamic studies by North Sails and Matteo Polli, the NextGen delivers a 10% increase in upwind performance and a 20% gain downwind.
A new rudder profile and optimized ORC standards improve the Balance Performance Rating by 17% on the polar.
Italia Yachts proves that innovation and responsibility can coexist. The hull and deck are manufactured using advanced vacuum infusion with recyclable resins and a PET sandwich derived from recycled materials.Inside, the yacht features a full composite interior with lightweight accessories and upholstery made from ECO Batyline. Despite the racing focus, the vessel remains functional and “right to live,” equipped with a racing kitchen, a bathroom with a shower, and 220V/12V electrical systems.
As the first eco-friendly yacht to implement the GENE.SYS system, the NextGen features a “Digital Passport” via an integrated RFID tag. This allows owners and shipyards to access construction data, materials, and certified maintenance history instantly via a web app.To complement this, the FBG (Fiber Bragg Grating) Global Sensing system uses fiber optic sensors to monitor the real-time deformations of the mast, hull, keel, and rudder. This opens a new frontier in performance engineering, allowing for predictive maintenance and deep structural health monitoring during navigation.
